Create or download probes
for reading fluency, math computation, letter ID, number ID, and
wordlists.. (IMPORTANT: Many of these probes are created dynamically,
using Internet applications. For your web browser to view these
probes correctly, it must be set to allow 'pop-up' windows).

Early
Numeracy Measures: Drs.
Erica
Lembke of the University of Missouri and Anne
Foegen of Iowa State University have developed updated versions
of Early Numeracy Measures. You can obtain samples of their most
recent Early Numeracy Measures, technical reports, and a user

The regular charting of student academic progress is a critical
component of CBM. This section features both computer applications and printable graphs for charting CBM data.
Graphing With Computers
- Check out the CBM
Charting
Spreadsheet from www.interventioncentral.org,
a Microsoft Excel 2000 file that allows you to store up to 5 baseline datapoints and 50 progress-monitoring datapoints.
The spreadsheet automatically generates a time-series graph and trend-line. You can customize chart labels easily
to display student information and CBM behaviors of your choice.
- Download several Excel spreadsheets that have
been pre-formatted to allow you to enter data and to create time-series graphs for CBM measures (Courtesy of Dr.
Jim McDougal).
- Use ChartDog, an online CBM
application from www.interventioncentral.org that allows you to generate progress-monitoring time-series graphs.

These web-based applications from www.interventioncentral.org can save you hours of time in creating CBM probes and evaluating student progress
(Courtesy of
Intervention Central):
- Use the Math Worksheet Generator
to create an endless series of computation worksheets for the basic math operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division.
- The CBA Assessment List Builder
allows you to build English or Spanish curriculum-based assessment lists of letters, sight words, or numbers to
measure skills of emerging learners. You can create lists made up of a single type of item or build composite lists
from any items that you choose.
- With OKAPI!, you can type or
paste text into a form, then have the application automatically convert that text into a set of Examiner and Student
Curriculum-Based Assessment (CBA) reading probes. OKAPI! will also compute a Spache or Dale-Chall readability index for the sample.
- ChartDog lets you enter any student's CBM data to instantly make progress-monitoring graphs.
ChartDog graphs
are dynamically generated images that you can print, save to your computer hard-drive, or email as attachments.

- Comprehensive
CBM/CBA Bibliography
[Acrobat File]
This document contains a comprehensive listing of research articles
on CBM & CBA from 1984 through 2002. Also includes an addendum
with web resources. Prepared by the Connecticut SERC.
- DIBELS
(Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) Homepage
DIBELS are the gold standard for monitoring emerging literacy
skills, including those that relate to phonemic/phonological awareness.
This site allows users to download materials and a training manual
at no cost. (Note: You must sign up for a free 'materials download
account' in order to access DIBELS resources.)
- Edformation/AimsWeb [Pay
Site]
Edformation/Aimswel is a company that markets a full range of
Curriculum-Based Measurement services to schools. Schools subscribing
to Edformation receive training in the administration of CBM,
are supplied with all probes for student monitoring, can store
their school CBM data in an online database, and can generate
graphs of group and individual student performance. Edformation
demonstrates the power of the Internet to make CBM much more feasible
as a method of student assessment.
- National
Center on Student Progress Monitoring
The National Center on Student Progress Monitoring is dedicated
to the implementation of scientifically-based student progress
monitoring for grades K-5. The Center works to provide technical
assistance to states and districts and disseminate information
about student progress monitoring practices proven to work in
different academic content areas. The National Center on Student
Progress Monitoring is a technical assistance and dissemination
center funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special
Education Programs.
